Indicamp offers creative experiences in nature every day. Under the guidance of experienced youth workers, volunteers and young people, little Indians ride horses, climb, shoot bows and fish. We draw and paint on canvases, t-shirts, pebbles and other natural materials. We create cave paintings and dream-catchers, mould clay, read fairy tales and fables. We do a lot of exercise, exploring the forest and lakeshores. We learn about orientation and survival in nature, identifying tracks, observing animals and learning about plants. In Indian talking circles, we express our feelings, consult with elders, receive life lessons with an emphasis on peaceful coexistence and respect for nature, play various instruments, sing and dance.
When we – children and mentors – try to live like Indians, we take on a more positive view of ourselves, of our relationships with others and with nature, which is the foundation of many indigenous cultures. We make new friends, strengthen our motor and communication skills, discover our talents, take responsibility, practice empathy and mindfulness, swap our modern lifestyle for a few days with living in nature and grow as individuals.
Indicamp brings together members of the wider local community working in the Škale Lake area, as well as interesting guests from elsewhere. It also gives a lot to mentors, mostly unemployed volunteers and students, who gain new experiences and references when working with children.
