  YOWO - Slovenia Meeting

The twin towns of Esslingen, Velenje and Vienne want to actively involve young people in twinning to give the twinning partnerships a new drive, especially in the wake of the pandemic.

The aim of the project was to introduce young people to the European Union and its values, and to stimulate interest in active social participation among the participants.

The project took the young people to Strasbourg, where they visited the Parliament and, together with other young participants, planned a Europe Day, which they later organised in their own city. Our delegation organised it in Velenje, together with the Velenje School Centre.

The project has created a European network of 8 different countries focusing on the NEET phenomenon.

Participants included:

• Municipality of Alimos, Greece
• Ayuntamiento de Santa Pola, Spain
• Portogruaro, Italy
• Municipality of Athienou, Cyprus
• Asociatia Se Poate, Romania
• Association Euni Partners, Bulgaria
• Dica Onlus, Italy

Participants addressed the NEET phenomenon and proposed incentives and solutions to motivate individuals to actively participate both in their local environment and as European citizens.

The main objective of the project is to create channels and a community environment for the reintegration of NEETs into society, especially those who are unmotivated and long-term unemployed. Most of the activities, such as creative workshops, round tables, debates, job explorations, humanities libraries, etc., are aimed at promoting active citizenship among young NEETs and strengthening civic and democratic competences. These activities will integrate the European policies and opportunities identified to support the social inclusion of young people (Erasmus Plus programme, Mobilities, EU Citizenship rights, etc.).

The project took place in 7 different European countries.

Participants included:

• Municipality of Medina del Campo, Spain
• Municipality of Szolnok, Hungary
• Municipality of Fano, Italy
• Development Agency MARA – Makarska, Croatia
• Targo Mures University of Arts, Romania
• Municipality of Shumen, Bulgaria
• Center Diego Fabri – Forli, Italy

The aim of the project was to create an intergenerational community through a network of partners, meeting to discuss the reasons for the growing Euroscepticism in the European Union. Each meeting highlighted a specific topic, which participants discussed together with local people.

The last meeting took place on Europe Day, where all the participants and the young hosts played games related to the European Union and Europe's common future.
