konS is a platform for contemporary investigative art, creating better conditions for artists to collaborate with researchers and engineers.
We are one ninth of the consortium that built the foundations of the konS ≡ Platform for Contemporary Investigative Art between 2019 and 2023. Together with eight organisations from Ljubljana, Maribor, Nova Gorica and Novo mesto, we created and presented artistic and research productions and strengthened the ecosystem of stakeholders in the field of education, innovation and economy at the intersection of science, technology and society.
konS is a platform for contemporary investigative art, creating better conditions for artists to collaborate with researchers and engineers, engaging cultural and creative industries in innovation for a sustainable, inclusive and ethical economy of the future, and educating diverse audiences in the critical use of new technologies.
We have participated in a network that has set up and equipped laboratories for the development of artistic and research productions and innovations, trained mentors and developed workshops for research-based learning. In the local environment we showcased both classical and avant-garde works in the field of contemporary investigative art with three modules. As a producer, we have signed three prototypes – a smart garden with a robot spider, an interactive collaborative platform, and a virtual assistant based on a web interface for playful learning.
The legacy of the first part of the konS ≡ Platform for Contemporary Investigative Art project is extremely rich. We set up the Nucleus hub in Velenje, where four intensive training sessions were held for 14 mentors of intermedia workshops. The participants of the last training in 2023 also developed the first workshop produced by the Velenje Youth Centre – Music for a Better Day or DIY Solar Speaker. We did 45 workshops between 2019 and 2023 for children, adolescents and adults. Almost 400 people took part, two thirds of them children. The workshops took place in the Nukleus hub, as well as in the primary schools Livada Velenje and Karel Destovnik-Kajuh Šoštanj, in the Velenje Gallery, Youth Centre Šmartno ob Paki, the Centre for Youth and Children, at the Pika Festival and elsewhere. A special workshop was held for representatives of the JSKD Savinja and Koroška regions.
At three festivals of contemporary investigative art or konS ≡ Modules in Velenje we hosted workshops for all generations as well as: 15 artistic productions, 9 discussions, presentations and round tables, 13 accompanying music events, three films on contemporary investigative art and one robotic performance. The exhibition at the Velenje Gallery in March 2023 complemented the nationwide programme konSekvence ≡ Fragments of a possible ecosystem, which presented the project konS in all partner cities. The technical team of Velenje Youth Centre led the set-up of the main exhibition in Cukrarna, where three prototypes produced by the Velenje Youth Centre – C-lab, Mojbot and StellaVerde – were presented for the first time. The latter has been selected in 2023 for Ars Electronica, the most important international festival of digital art.
The first part of the konS ≡ Platform for Contemporary Investigative Art project has ended, and we continue to complement the local arts and culture programme with new developments in the field of contemporary investigative art. Technical equipment shared by the consortium partners can support local artistic and research production. We continue to build competences for the future by executing workshops. We create good conditions for creativity at the intersection of art, science, technology and society.
The konS ≡ Platform for Contemporary Investigative Art project was selected in the public call for proposals “Network of Investigative Art and Culture Centres”. The investment is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. The project ran from 2019 to 2023.
